Hiram House Camp Unveils New Log Cabin at Grand Opening

Hiram House Camp hosted a Grand Opening on Friday, July 19, 2013 to unveil its new Log Cabin in Pioneer Circle in the heart of the scenic 172-acre youth camp, on 33775 Hiram Trail, in Moreland Hills, Ohio.

This is the fourth new year-round Log Cabin to be built in recent years as part of a multi-million dollar Capital Improvement Campaign and Master Plan at Hiram House, Ohio’s oldest camp, founded in 1896.

Major funding to build and outfit the Log Cabin was donated by generous grants from The Abington Foundation, The Eva L. & Joseph M. Bruening Foundation, The Louise H. & David S. Ingalls Foundation, and The John B. Hollister, Jr. Fund.  Camp officials expressed their deepest gratitude to them on behalf of all the children served by Hiram House.

The all-weather, 4,300 square-foot rustic Log Cabin is nestled in the woods as part of the camp’s Lodge Village and will be used by Summer Campers, School Campers and Group Retreats.

New Log Cabin Interior Great Room

The year-round structure can accommodate up to thirty-two campers and supervisory staff for overnight lodging. It features a winterized screened sun porch, a great room for meetings or instruction, sleeping quarters, foyer, showers and restrooms, plus handicapped access and state of the art fire and safety systems.

Other planned capital improvements at Hiram House include a new Swimming Pool and Dining Hall. Recently built new facilities at the camp include a new High & Low Ropes Challenge Course, a new Farmstead Barn and a renovated Multi-purpose Activity Center.

Hiram House is an accredited member of the American Camping Association and a United Way Partner Service Agency.  The camp offers a wide variety of quality outdoor education and recreation programs to thousands of children and adults in Northeast Ohio each year.

Hiram House officials present plaque to John B. Hollister, Jr. Family

Hiram House officials presented a plaque, which will hang inside the new Log Cabin, to members of the Hollister Family in memory of long-time Hiram House Trustee and supporter John B. “Jack” Hollister, Jr., who died in 2012. The interior of the new Log Cabin was outfitted thanks to generous donations, by hundreds of individuals, groups and organizations, to a special memorial fund established in his name.

Plaque inscribed: In Memory of John B. "Jack" Hollister, Jr. - "For his many years of service and dedication to Hiram House, he will always be remembered." - presented July 19, 2013
